Complex Computer Networks
Description
This course prepares students to explain the architecture and protocols of large-scale networks, design networks with software-defined networking and network virtualisation, and analyse threats and apply defence mechanisms to network infrastructure. Study materials: Networking and Communication (NC).
Topics
- Architecture of large-scale networks
- Dynamic routing and inter-domain routing protocols
- Software-defined networking
- Network virtualisation
- Quality of service and network performance
- Threats to network infrastructure
- Network infrastructure defence mechanisms
Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)
Each course outcome derives from one programme outcome.
- CPMK0905
Students are able to analyse threats and apply security mechanisms to computer networks and mobile devices.
CPL09 - CPMK-KSMI-02
Students are able to evaluate security by appropriately applying defence strategies to infrastructure and mobile devices.
CPLP02 - CPMK-KSMI-01
Students are able to design and implement modern computing architectures by making use of artificial intelligence, multimedia and data integrity
CPLP02
Supported PLOs
- CPL09
- Analyse the principles and practice of computer system security to mitigate cyber threats and attacks.
- CPLP02
- Design and evaluate modern computing system architectures that integrate artificial intelligence, multimedia and data integrity, and apply cyber defence strategies to infrastructure and mobile devices.
