Network Security
Description
This course prepares students to analyse threats and attacks on computer networks, apply network security mechanisms such as firewalls, IDS/IPS and VPNs, and design network security architectures. Study materials: Systems Fundamentals (SF), Networking and Communication (NC), Security (SEC).
Topics
- Threats and attacks on computer networks
- Security of network protocols
- Firewalls and packet filtering
- Intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS)
- Virtual private networks (VPN)
- Network security architecture
- Network traffic monitoring and analysis
Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)
Each course outcome derives from one programme outcome.
- CPMK0905
Students are able to analyse threats and apply security mechanisms to computer networks and mobile devices.
CPL09 - CPMK-KSMI-01
Students are able to design and implement modern computing architectures by making use of artificial intelligence, multimedia and data integrity
CPLP02 - CPMK-KSMI-02
Students are able to evaluate security by appropriately applying defence strategies to infrastructure and mobile devices.
CPLP02
Supported PLOs
- CPL09
- Analyse the principles and practice of computer system security to mitigate cyber threats and attacks.
- CPLP02
- Design and evaluate modern computing system architectures that integrate artificial intelligence, multimedia and data integrity, and apply cyber defence strategies to infrastructure and mobile devices.
